The Brevet is fully booked! Registration is no longer possible—not even for those wishing to register on the day. Sorry!
There are many names for a forest in Dutch: *hout*, *woud*, *loo*, *foreest*, *geboomte*, *ris*, or *holt*. *Holtland* > *Holland*. Forests cover nearly 11% of the Netherlands, whereas the European average is 39–42%. This means we could cycle through almost all of them in a single day ;-)
We begin at the bicycle-friendly hotel/restaurant Vossenberg in Vierhouten. Outside, near the bike parking area, you will find a water tap for your water bottles, as well as a bicycle pump. Inside, you can pick up your brevet card and enjoy a warm drink before the start.
The start is at 09:00; participants will set off in groups of approximately 20 people, with a one-minute interval between each group.Along the route, you will encounter 3 checkpoints (CP1, CP2, CP3). These are places where you can easily take a break—such as a restaurant, café, or fuel station. To validate your brevet card, you can obtain a stamp or a receipt for a purchase at these locations; alternatively, you may take a selfie at the site.
CP1 LOENEN 47th km – various restaurants/cafe
CP2 KOUDHOORN 90th km – hotel/restaurant
CP3 KAMPEN 144th km – McD, fuel station, ...
The first 120 km are quite hilly. From Nunspeet onwards, the terrain becomes as flat as the Netherlands can be.
Starting at Hattem (179th km), you head back into the woods, which means encountering hills again. The road known as 'Zuidweg'—passing through 'De Dellen' (179th km)—is a better option in the dark than the parallel (non-mandatory) cycle path.
On November 14th, the sun sets at 16:46. Many cycle paths are covered in fallen leaves; winter tires are recommended for this brevet.
Back in Vierhouten – the finish checkpoint is open from 15:00 and closes at 22:30. If you run into trouble along the way and cannot reach the finish on time, please let the organizer know. How to get to Vierhouten:
By bike: the best way
By train: travel to Nunspeet, then cycle 7.4 km (20 minutes).
By car: free parking is available near the street 'Ganzenakkers' in Vierhouten; here -
Apologies, the maximum number of participants has been reached already!
